Apply account on Bladerunner
Today I applied an account on one of super computers in lab called Bladerunner. This was my purpose to come here for doing a scalable testing on power parallel system. If I couldn’t get the account during I was here, it would waste my time to come. By the mean time, I was doing some stuff on PTP such as JUnit testing and profiling. After 5:00pm, I left there and went back to hotel for browsing internet a while.
I planned to have dinner at Subway this time, but it was closed already when I arrived there. Then I went to a Chinese restaurant called China Moon. I had some food in this restaurant before (two years ago). This time I ordered “Pud Thai Rice Noodle” to take away. By the way, we called “take away” in Australia, but it called “to go” here.

Start to work at Lanl
I met Craig at 9:00am at my hotel, but I got his call at 8:00am. Lucky I got up very early. Then we drove to the office and made the badge. We had lunch at Greek restaurant which is outside the lab area. The food is very good. I asked Craig whether he felt not good after dinner last Wednesday at Indian restaurant. He said he felt very bad and didn’t sleep over night. I also told him I was stomach upset and puke.
The clock was 1:00pm in restaurant. It was an hour quickly than my watch. I asked Craig whether it was day-night saving here. He told me the time was changed yesterday, so he came at 8:00am this morning.
I worked at Greg’s office in Lanl because he was leaving. All computers in his room were removed and I used Craig’s old machine to work. In Greg’s office, his office chair is really cool. I love it and I want to get one as well. It made by BodyBilt company, but I know it is very expensive. I needed to leave 5:00pm. It is a rule for visitor.
I went to laundry for cleaning. I put my clothes into the washing machine and found that I got very little clothes for cleaning. Totally were fewer than 10. It was not worth for going laundry and I had dinner at opposite.

Santa Fe
I went to Santa Fe today. Anna asked to find some books for her in Borders. Same as before that I wrote down the address and route from google map last night. In Borders, there was no such books that Anna requested in store.
Then I went to information centre to grab some maps. I planned to shop in big market and drove up to the top of the mountain after lunch, but I lost and I spent much time on finding a correct route. In addition, the climate was changing badly, so I decided to go back after lunch. I had lunch at Wendy’s this time and it was good.

Drive around Los Alamos
Saturday today, I drove around within Los Alamos. The climate was cooler very much than in San Jose. I still could see snow on some where. Firstly, I didn’t know it was snow because I could see some green and some white. I thought it was white rock because there is a place called White Rock. Then I walked closely to the white and it was snow.
I thought I drove about an hour and then grab something on supermarket. Dinner at McDonald’s again.

Leaving San Jose to Los Alamos
Left Santa Clara today. After breakfast, I took hotel shuttle to airport.
Today was my birthday, so I really scared to take any transport tools. Touch wood. I needed to take a flight from San Jose to San Diego and then to Albuquerque. Finally, drove to Los Alamos. It would spend a half of day on traveling.
From San Jose to Albuquerque, the flight will stop on San Diego. I didn’t know I should stay on the plane. I got off and then asked the ground staff to let me get back on the plane. So stupid!
Arrived at Albuquerque, I went to Budget to get my rental car.
It was an American car. Many people (Greg and Craig) said American car is suck. The first thing to do was to buy some stuff that Anna ordered. Lucky I wrote the address and route from google map last night. Then I could go there directly because I forgot to ask a map from the Budget.
The time from Albuquerque to Los Alamos should be around 2 hours, but I took 5 hours. The traffic jam took 3 hours already and I still don’t know what is caused by.
During the traffic jam, I found an interesting thing. There are lanes and all the cars on both lanes were driving very slow and waiting in queue. Some drivers wanted to jump the queue, so they took a service lane. A car in front of me drove on service lane to stop the drivers jumping the queue. It was interesting because I thought whether I should follow them to jump the queue and not thinking to stop them. Finally, I arrived at hotel in Los Alamos about 8:00pm and had a food at McDonalds.

Last day of EclipseCon
Today I was very sick. I vomited last night, so I felt very hungry. I went to have breakfast and finally decided not going to EclipseCon. Today was last day of EclipseCon and Greg already told me that he would not go. Then I decided not going too. After breakfast, I slept until 3:00pm. When I woke up, I felt much better and started hungry again. Then I searched there was a supermarket close to the hotel, but I still needed by foot to there. It took 30mins walk to arrive at the supermarket called Safeway.
I bought a roast chicken and some instant cup noodles for lunch and dinner. It was my last night staying in this hotel tonight. I would go to airport tomorrow morning, so I packed up my luggage. In this EclipseCon, I got a wonderful T-shirt. I really love it.

3rd day of EclipseCon
Today I got up a little bit late because I still couldn’t have a good sleep. Might be a jet lag I thought. After having a breakfast, I took a hotel shuttle to convention centre this time. The shuttle was a van but it only had six seats including the driver, so it was always full. One purpose of this trip is to attend the Bof of my project and it was finished yesterday, so I was quite free now to attend any session I was interested. In the morning, I attended the Greg’s talk about PTP and had lunch with him in convention centre. The food in here was not too bad. Then I went to another room for desert. EclipseCon was separated the lunch and desert area. An exhibition room set up some booths and tea and desert were provided at the same place, so attendee could drink and browse at the same time. It was a quite good idea to force many people to watch booths.
This time I had dinner with them and three more people joined us. One is CDT’s project leader. We went to an Indian restaurant and all of us ordered buffet. I didn’t like the food there. I got stomach upset, puking and fever in the hotel. I think I had some bad food.

2nd day of EclipseCon
Second day of EclipseCon, I was not very well today. I asked Craig to lift me to convention centre on the morning, but I missed due to fall asleep. He also forgot my room number, otherwise he could call me. Finally, I took a taxi to there. I had lunch and dinner in convention centre, but Greg, Craig and Beth had dinner outside. I found a good desert in convention centre. It was a chocolate fountain.
We had a Bof after dinner, but everybody seemed to start doing the slides now. In our Bof, not many people attended that I was unexpected. Finally, it was going well. Many people are interested in our project. After that, we took some photo and then Craig drove Greg and me back to hotel.

EclipseCon Commence
Conference started today. I wanted to arrive at convention centre before 8:00am, so I got up very earlier this morning. Actually, I didn’t sleep.
After having a breakfast in hotel, I asked hotel front desk about hotel shuttle to convention centre, but she told the shuttle was already full and next available was one 2 hours later. She also told me this service needed to book in advanced. Lucky, she told me there were some people called a cap to there and suggested asking them to lift me there and then split bill with them. Finally a guy from New Jersey let me go together and insisted not allow to pay. He is nice.
Today I registered two tutorials. Actually only one but it was separated into two parts. Part one was quite boring, but I could get something I didn’t know on Part two. I had both lunch and dinner at convention centre. At last, I asked Craig to lift me to hotel.

First day trip to US
I took a long flight from Melbourne to Los Angeles and then to San Jose to attend the EclipseCon. The flight was crowded, so I couldn’t have a good rest. Also I needed to prepare my meeting. Finally, I got two hours sleep on board. Qantas was one of the worst airlines. I took over 14 hours flying, but it provided lunch and breakfast meal only. I was very hungry when I arrived at LA.
Finally, I arrived at Biltmore hotel at Santa Clara.
After I set up my wireless online, my US boss Greg called me out for lunch because we stayed at the same hotel. He rented a car and his wife came with him to here. We left hotel at 2:00pm and picked up Beth in another hotel, who is one important person in my working team. Finally, four of us drove a long time to find a cafe (almost 1 hour). Santa Clara is not big, but Greg was getting lost. At last, we drove a big circle of Santa Clara and got off at Haytt. I had a lattle cost $5.0. I couldn’t get the receipt, so I needed to pay this for my own
. After a few talks about an hour, Beth, Greg and I went to register for the EclipseCon. I got a package bag (includes a number of CD and 512 memory key). I was happy I got a T-shirt. It is for eclipse committer only (very nice). Then we discussed something and I fixed some bugs that Greg found over there.
We were waiting another member Craig. He becomes my new boss because Greg is leaving Lanl and Craig should be the one to take over his job. After Craig arrived, we designed to have a dinner at Thai food restaurant which we found from map. We drove about 30 mins to there where a small mall is. There are a number of restaurants and all of them have Chinese name. It seems to be a china town, so I think this Thai restaurant is not Thai’s owned. Bingo. The food was bad. After dinner, we went back to hotel.
